Recently I have had quite an unfortunate problem. I was involved in a crash and the resultant insurance wrangle is proving to be very complicated. The deal with my insurance means that I get a courtesy car until my car is fixed, but if it turns out that I am liable for the damage, I will have to pay for the courtesy car. I am pretty sure that I am not culpable, but I really don’t want to risk it.
I decided on a whim that I could probably buy a really cheap banger to keep me going for a few weeks, and then sell it again when I had my car back! A novel idea, but quite a good money saver if I bought well.
I found a site on the internet called www.motors.co.uk which allowed me to search by price and location, meaning that I could isolate the cheapest cars which were in my immediate vicinity. This search brought up some amazingly poor cars, but surprisingly it also showed some pretty good vehicles too! I eventually went for a 1995 Peugeot 306 estate. It only cost me £350, and I thought it looked like it could be quite a useful vehicle. The body work was in good nick, and I was pretty confident that I would be able to sell it on.
A few weeks later and the insurance claim was settled. I got my car back as good as new and I managed to sell the Peugeot – for £400!
